Back 2 Basickz Youth Support Services was founded with the primary objective of creating a safe space for marginalized and racialized youth to come together, acquire essential life skills, and build a solid foundation for their futures.
Our mission revolves around empowering marginalized and racialized youth by offering comprehensive support in various aspects of life, including mental health, education, employment, and social integration. We strive to break the cycle of poverty that many of these youth experience by providing them with valuable resources, and the tools to help them excel and overcome the challenges they are experiencing.
Our aim:
A) Provide youth with academic upgrading through free tutoring, post-secondary assistance and various trainings.
B) Provide youth with economic and employment opportunities through entrepreneurial workshops, job shadowing, volunteerism and business fundamentals.
C) Provide youth with transitional housing support and post in incarceration soft-landing programs.
D) Provide youth experiencing mental health crisis to access counselling and emergency mental health crisis intervention.

Transforming, healing, building and strengthening our youth is the key to building our communities. The community is our foundation for empowerment; a place for diverse voices are heard and that through collaboration, we create a network of strength that uplifts, inspires and paves the way for a better future for all.
Opportunity:
Marginalized youth are at a significantly greater disadvantage in our society. Many feel unseen, undervalued and alone and have a hard time envisioning a bright future for themselves. At Back2Basickz we start with the basics and then focus on other critical and necessary resources to improve, support, and empower our youth.
Our Focus
Youth Support: Youth in various communities have limited opportunity to reach their full potential. They simply do not have the access to the tools & resources that could make all the difference in improving their lives. We strive to be an organization that can change that.

Amanda is the founder of Back2Basickz Youth Support Services, an organization
that provides rehabilitation and support services for youth involved in the Criminal Justice System.
Amanda Coombs holds a B.A. in Psychology and is an alumnus of York University. Since 2017 Amanda has certified over 1000 youth and adults as Mental Health First Aid Responders. Amanda provides training for various organizations and individuals, such as Toronto Community Housing.
Amanda does her best to highlight the community in a positive light and continues to impact the community. Amanda applies evidence-based teaching methods from her experience both working and volunteering at CAMH, various shelters, group homes, prisons, and hospitals.

Shemeka Coombs has a B. A in Social Work and is a graduate of York University. As a registered Social Worker. Shemeka has worked in the field for a decade and has years of experience. Practicing social work is her divine purpose in life. She is truly passionate about adding value to the life of others, by assisting them to work through difficult times.

Abdinasir Mohammed is the co-founder of Back 2 Basickz and is a graduate of the community worker program at George Brown College. Abdinasir has been living and working in the Jane and Finch neighborhood for nearly over a decade. He has been involved in various projects, one most recently being the Black Creek Community Farm in which he sits on the board of a bigger organization which is Everdale Farms. Abdinasir is passionate about youth and kids and strives to do his best to serve the community.

Ziva Ferreira

Ziva Ferreira is passionate about making low-income and marginalized communities a better place. She has experience with working with diverse community stakeholders, managing multiple projects, and leading various teams which have made her an effective leader. In combination with her professional experience, she is knowledgeable of the cultural and politically relevant resources to support marginalized groups by utilizing an anti-oppressive framework which makes her a great fit for the Back-to-Basics Youth Services team.
